The Benefits of Adding a Serum to Your Skincare Routine

We consider applying serums the heart of the perfect skincare routine. Yes, you read that right – serums. We apply serums before we apply our moisturizers like our lives depend on it because of this one simple fact: they work.

What is a Serum?

A face serum has a distinct runny and gel-like consistency which easily penetrates deep into the skin. It is devoid of heavier ingredients found in traditional moisturizers to allow a higher concentration of active ingredients in its formula. Serums are the skincare products responsible for delivering potent, active ingredients, like antioxidants, peptides and vitamins, into the skin.

We can attest that adding serums to our regular skincare routine has taken our skincare game to the next level. If you’re still skeptical, keep reading and learn what other benefits you can reap from adding this type of product in your skincare line up:

1.) But first, let’s talk about the numbers. Check out the ingredients list of your moisturizer and cleanser. They usually contain between 5 to 10% active ingredient. In comparison to serums, they can contain as much as 70%. Higher concentration of active ingredients will provide you corrective results at a faster rate. It’s like having a potent skincare potion in your hands!

2.) If you’re prone to acne or pimples, serums are going to be your BFF. Traditional moisturizers have fillers which may clog the pores. Serums have no fillers and are water-based so the skin just absorb them without leaving any impurities that may congest the pores.

3.) Many believe that if you have oily skin, you don’t need to use moisturizers anymore because it will just make your skin oilier. That’s not exactly true because whatever your skin type is, you need moisture to keep your skin plump, youthful and healthy. Serums will provide you with the hydration you need without adding oils and emollients to your face. With serums keeping your skin hydrated, your sebaceous glands will no longer over produce sebum which means it will make your skin less oily with regular use.

In a nutshell, since the active ingredients are so highly concentrated in these face serums, they will definitely produce more visible results in less time. Our favorite face serum this winter season would the Talia Skin Care’s Age Defying Advanced Serum.

It features the brand’s Age-Defying LighTec™ technology that targets skin pigmentation, deep wrinkles & oxidative stress. It also has Extreme Vitamin C which stimulates collagen production, brightens the skin and helps repair skin imperfections and discolorations.

To maximize the penetration of the active ingredients present in your serum, apply it to your face after washing and toning. You can use it alone or layer with a moisturizer.
